Moving Forward on Mexico: A Project by Mexico Today

by planetnomad on July 6, 2011

I’ve taken numerous trips to Mexico over the years, but the latest one I took to Oaxaca was extra special. Why? Because I was recently invited to be a contributing writer for Mexico Today, a program being sponsored by Marca País – Imagen de México. The program consists of 16 contributing writers and eight community managers, all of whom will be tasked and compensated for writing articles about Mexico. The project’s aim will be to report on various positive topics including the economy, security, health, infrastructure, culture/travel and the environment.

A lot of us already have been sharing our thoughts, stories or commentary about this precious country. We all have different slants, styles and areas of focus. This project however, allows all of us a broader reach in terms of readership. It also provides us access to tremendous amounts of resources which otherwise might be more difficult to obtain on our own.

The project’s kick-off was during the weekend of June 24th and lasted for three days in the gorgeous colonial city of Oaxaca.  Mexico Today, along with the renowned Public Relations firm of Ogilvy organized the event and will be providing guidance for the duration of the project.

The setting couldn’t have been better. Accommodations were set up at the gorgeous Camino Real Oaxaca, a former Dominican convent dating back to the 16th century. The weekend involved introductions, panel discussions, team assignment meetings, mezcal tastings, artisan demonstrations, regional dance performances, culinary samplings and excursions to nearby cultural attractions. With ample time to discuss the project goals and become familiar with everyone, the spark for further discussion and creative inspiration was born. I take this opportunity very seriously and hope it translates into a deeper and richer understanding of a country that merits that and more.

Please make sure and join us in celebrating Mexico’s riches and perpetuating the goals of the project and ultimately securing the necessary melodic “voice” that’s inherent in this wonderful country. I encourage everyone to stay up-to-date on Twitter by following our hashtag: #MexicoToday. You can also support our project by showing a “like” on Facebook and reading up on our latest contributions and even sharing your input. Lastly, make sure to follow and support this great team of writers who will be providing excellent, entertaining and thoughtful contributions about everything Mexico!

I’m excited to see Mexico tourism embracing bloggers and online writers to spread positive buzz about Mexico. Sounds like a great campaign– I look forward to your posts.

Leslie: I really can’t say enough good things about this project! First, I’m super excited to have been chosen alongside these fantastic writers who all hold a very deep passion for Mexico. Secondly, I believe the strategy will pay off huge dividends after the group’s collective efforts surface to a point that present Mexico in its rightful place…A country full of wonderful surprises! I recall you telling me that you’ve never been to Mexico….now, with all this positive energy, you really ought to be booking some plane tics for you guys…haha! Thanks for your visit and your support of this project…really appreciate it!
