Bus travel through Mexico can be one of the best ways to experience the culture while seeing the many sights that go unseen from a plane or other mode of transportation.  It is very efficient, affordable, safe and fun if some tips are kept in mind.  Below is a list of various bus lines which provide service to all parts of the country.  But first, here are a few tips to make your travels more enjoyable.

  • Classes are divided into:  deluxe (de lujo), 1st class (primera clase)  & 2nd class (segunda clase)
  • Though second class can be much cheaper, travel time can sometimes double due to multiple stops
  • Pack motion sickness medication if traveling through rough terrain and you find yourself susceptible
  • Some higher-grade classes offer a small snack, but always pack and prepare
  • Though some buses have toilets, carry extra change for use at pay toilets found at some bus stops
  • Purchase tickets early, especially for routes with fewer runs
  • Seating is open, but carefully choose a location with view, no obstructions and away from direction of sun
  • Keep your claim ticket for any storage in bus underbelly
  • For overhead storage protection, place your personals in compartment across the aisle from your seat
  • Some cities have multiple bus terminals so ask which one best suits your destination
